Daddy who?
Named by a crowd,
kept by a town.
After racing cars and playing in bands through the 70s, Steve Marshall settled on Haida Gwaii. In March 1988 he bought Walter’s Inn — and while he was drumming at a hall in Skidegate, the crowd kept yelling the name of a song between sets: “Daddy Cool! Daddy Cool!”
“In two weeks, there will be a bar in Masset called Daddy Cool’s, named after this song…”

1982
Steve opens an arcade, then buys the bowling alley on Main Street.

1988
Buys Walter's Inn from Walter Pomeranski — Daddy Cool's Pub is born, and becomes the hottest spot in Masset.

1998
After the military station stands down, Steve rebrands to Mile Zero Pub & Mile Zero Dining Room to put Masset on the map — mile zero of the Yellowhead Highway.

Locals never stopped calling it DC's — so the name comes home: Daddy Cool's Public House at Mile Zero.

Today
Still the neighbourhood pub — and Steve still comes up in the summer, and usually gets in the way.
